To achieve a goal, you have to know what the goal is. As long as you don't know exactly what your destination is, you might as well be adrift in a rudderless ship. Clearly formulated business drivers are essential for a maintenance organisation. Strangely enough, clearly formulated business drivers are lacking in most maintenance organisations. Quantitatively expressed business drivers determine what approach is required. Ultimately, this leads to better substantiated maintenance plans. After all, the target business drivers have been agreed in consultation with the production department. Instead of opposing each other because clear business drivers and the ensuing logical working agreements are lacking, a strong base is created for optimum collaboration between maintenance and production.
Determine the business drivers: clarify strategy and goals and set out a course for the organisation.
